@@solofemaletravelerme I am admittedly no music expert, but I had heard more than once that she had perfect pitch. I believe that she had one of the best pop tune voices of the late 20th century. It's entirely possible that you can objectively rate her ability better than I can.
I love this song. I love the story it tells, and Karen's magnificent voice. But the line "Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby. I love you. I really do." keeps it from being a perfect song. That line needs work.
I've been a musician for almost 50 years now and I remember standing in front of the speakers as a child and wondering why this tune made my head feel strange. Excellence across the board on this one.
My mom loved this song. She loved Karen in general. My mom would tear up when she listened to this song. I’m sure the song spoke to her somehow. I wish I would’ve asked why. Now I get emotional hearing it because I miss my mom. Cancer took her. RIP mom O7/23/1970 -05/16/2019
1970-71 I was 7 years old with my Mom in the ladies department at JCPENNEY in Downey...all of a sudden my Mom got this big ol smile on her face and said" look Eric... there's Karen Carpenter." We had all their albums. Richard and Karen would always wave when they drove by my house in Downey... we'd be outside on our bicycles... Karen would always have her feet up on the dashboard...big smile...In their Carpenter's Van! Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school California USA ♥️🇺🇲🦅 We lost so much when we lost Karen....
From the tone of the melody you felt the strange of the quality of the voice she had. Unique, it's hard to have unique voice like that. From the begining unto the end of the song was really great, I said very convincing. This song until now are really classic and very worth remembering the voice she has. Very unforgettable..an immortal song.
I find that artists from 60s and so forth have such a unique sound from the diaphragm. Not to mention, their slang still sounded very proper 🤣 That era's accent helps with the clarity of the lyrics being sung. Which all makes it so innocent, nostalgic, and memorable with every genre even rock. Personally, it's ever so hard to find a favourite singer from those times. Truly.
Damn, this song reminds me of my dad and our many road trips listening to this song and others on cassette. Makes me miss him so much more. RIP dude I will never forget you

Absolutely love 70s and 80smusic such amazing classics like this gorgeous gem rest in paradise Karen you were truly Americas sweetheart sorely missed and loved by thousands your music will always live on xxx
I love it as much now, and it has the same emotional effect, as it did in 1971. What I didn't feel in 1971 is the disgust over how much music has deteriorated to such a degree that practically everything recorded today is pure crap.
I was only 20 when Karen Carpenter passed and I remember how utterly shocked everyone was. Forty years on and I still can't hear this incredible voice without tearing up.
You come after me for opinions on the greatest musicians and singers, I'm a 50 year guitar player who grew up on rock, greatness stands the test of time
I’m a Gen Y person influenced heavily by 90s and modern culture, especially Japanese anime and music like Hatsune Miku. However, I often listen to this song because it’s my father’s favorite. No matter how many times I hear it, I still feel that it’s an unparalleled masterpiece of the 70s.
Es gibt nur eine Karen Carpenter. So traurig dass sie so früh gestorben ist. Ich habe sie schon als Kind sehr gerne gehört. Nun bin ich 61. Einzigartige Stimme. Unvergessen.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’ve told many of the younger generation who thought the song superstar was made by Luther Vandross I tried to tell them, Karen and Richard Carpenter wrote this song years before Luther Vandross thought about doing a remake on it. Then when they found out I was right they said wow it’s amazing and we thought all along that Luther Vandross did this song. It’s amazing what you can find out when you sit down and talk to the older generation..
I've been looking for this song for 20 years, and just found it yesterday afternoon,, and that's because of the song every shalala every wowo... hmmm i'm very love this song
Me too... TREASURE Effect y'all... I love treasure, and jeongwoo's voice.. I'm into KPop.. But still no one can beat the original... Karen has really an angelic voice... Jeongwoo brought me back to my classic genre of music..
gaspo2180: Don't forget the late Leon Russell, who wrote it! It was originally titled, " Groupie", but when Rita Coolidge was talking about some singer, & refered to him as a superstar, Leon had never heard the term before, and changed the title. (I think every gullible girl or woman who's ever been told "I love you" by a boy/man whom she loved, just so he could score, then dump her, gets teary- eyed with this song.) 😥 Been there.
I'm going to sing this song from The Carpteners on Zoom in June 2021 for Cafe Quarantine Karaoke. In fact, I'm glad that the lyrics are onscreen, so I'm able to follow along with the song from this popular sibling duo that I added to a playlist that I made on Spotify which is called, "On the Go 2️⃣." Are there any positive thoughts that you'd like to send to me in the comment boards as polite replies? 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I also added it to "Travel songs with energetic qualities" which is another playlist that I made on Spotify. 👍🏻 if you're excited about my performance this Friday afternoon.
It's hard for me to listen to Karen Carpenter sing tears come to my eyes and I almost break down and cry right now I'm tearing up I know how much pain she was in she suffered and she was in terrible pain and some of her beautiful singing isn't you would think it would be from Joy but some of her singing is from her immense agony and sadness that they drove her singing and that's so sad because her voice is so lovely
Normally an artist does a song in 10 or more takes. Karen did this in one take reading the worlds from a napkin. She was that good! No one compared to her. No one.
This song is about longing for who or what isn't coming back; and we the living are left to either stumble around or find our way forward--possibly both at times, sometimes they alternate> I've learned to deal with & accept my Mom's passing; God said "Mission Complete, return to base". Now if only I could REALLY come to terms with this fiance, well ex-fiance of mine....
this is so beautiful and sad, and karen carpenter was a really talented singer it's too bad people write off the crapenters as "just a soft am act" and karen couldn't win the battle with her demons.

Between Richard's beautiful arrangements, and Karen's stunningly perfect voice, this is yet another perfect song.

Sorry to learn of your loss :( Your mom is now a superstar in Heaven.

Perfect example of GREAT WORDS, a GREAT BAND (the Wrecking Crew), and of course Karen and Richard. 50 years from now they'll still be playing this.

Her voice moves me. And the song seems to be from heaven.
There has been no other singer quite like her. Dark in tone, but smooth and sweet, always comforting and gentle. Just beautiful.

After Luther and Karen, no one will ever be able to do justice to this song. Such a beautiful voice ❤️❤️❤️
😢😢😢❤❤❤ I saw this comment and I have to agree. Luther did a great cover, but I know this song is always Karen Carpinter's. Sincerely, Carla

Another great song by Leon Russell.
Finally paying attention to the lyrics of this song in my old age, sounds like it’s simply about a one night stand with a touring musician. Well… ok.
At least it was classy and tasteful lmao
